Professional Experience and Political Career:
- Lawyer at the Office of Attorney of H.E. Abdallah El-Yafi
- Began his political career in 1951
- Elected Deputy (Member of Parliament) for Zghorta for the first time in 1957
- Re-elected in 1960, 1964, 1968 and 1972, remaining Deputy by virtue of the extension of Parliament's mandate until elected President of the Republic
- Participated in Parliamentary committees, chairing the Administration and Justice Committee in 1959, then the Finance and Budget Committee from 1960 until his election as President of the Republic except in the times when he held ministerial positions
- Appointed Minister of Post, Telegraph and Telephone from 1961 until the end of 1964, in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Rachid Karameh during the term of H.E. President Fuad Chehab
- Appointed Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, then Minister of Public Works in 1969, in the two Cabinets of Prime Minister Rachid Karameh during the term of H.E. President Charles Helou
- Appointed Minister of National Education and Fine Arts in 1980, in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Chafik El-Wazzan during the term of H.E. President Elias Sarkis.
- Elected President of the Republic on the 5th of November 1989
- First President of Lebanon after the Taef accords, yet assassinated in a car bomb that targeted his motorcade on November 22, 1989, few days after his election.
